High Peak MP Jon Pearce has watched the People’s Emergency Briefing, a 50-minute film bringing together leading UK experts on the impacts of climate and nature breakdown and has signed the briefing’s call for greater public awareness and action.
The film is based on the National Emergency Briefing held in Westminster in November 2025, where leading experts set out the implications of climate and nature breakdown for issues including food security, health, the economy and national security.
Jon Pearce MP has also signed the accompanying briefing, joining politicians and community members calling for a televised emergency briefing on the climate and
nature crisis.
Jon Pearce MP said:
“It was great to get the chance to watch the People’s Emergency Briefing in Edale and I’m happy to support the call for a televised screening afterwards.
“It is so hard these days to get facts and information you can trust. So, it is great to have all of these experts, including from our military, in one place talking about climate change, the threats it poses and how we can tackle it.
“In High Peak with the wildfires we suffered this summer we don’t need any convincing that our climate is changing, and that we have to do more to adapt and protect our precious countryside and communities.
“For those, including Reform UK and the Conservatives, who still need convincing that we need to act, I challenge them to watch the briefing.
“The briefing very effectively challenges some of the concerns often raised about ‘why do we need to do anything?’ I was particularly struck by the fact that China is in fact already producing half of its energy from renewables, which goes against what we are often told.
“Thank you to everyone in Edale who helped with the screening. I’m pleased that so many other communities across High Peak have been organising their own screenings. I would encourage anyone who gets the opportunity to watch the briefing to do so, discuss it with their neighbours and get involved in the conversation about what we can do individually and as communities to play our part in addressing climate change.”
The People’s Emergency Briefing has been made available for community screenings across the UK, with screenings taking place in locations including High Peak.
