PRIVACY POLICY
This “Privacy Policy” sets out information relating to how I use personal information relating to constituents and visitors to this website.
PRIVACY NOTICE FOR WEBSITE VISITORS
JON PEARCE MP
1. WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THIS PRIVACY NOTICE?
This document (“privacy notice”) sets out information about how I will use personal information relating to visitors to my website. It also explains your rights under data protection law and how you can exercise them, including how to:
• Object to certain uses of your personal information
• Withdraw any consent you have given
• Make a complaint
2. WHO DOES THIS PRIVACY NOTICE APPLY TO?
This privacy notice applies to visitors to my website.
3. WHAT’S MY APPROACH TO PRIVACY?
I take your privacy extremely seriously and want you to feel confident that your personal information is safe in my hands.
I will only use your personal information in accordance with data protection law as it applies in England and Wales. Under data protection law, I act as a data controller — meaning I make decisions about how and why your information is used.
The main rules that apply to me as a data controller are:
3.1 I must be upfront and transparent about how I intend to use your personal information and must use it fairly. Providing this privacy notice is part of that commitment.
3.2 I must have a legal basis to use your personal information. These include:
• That you have given your consent; or
• That my use of your information is necessary for the performance of a task in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in me.
3.3 I must only use sensitive personal information (known as “special category” data — such as information about your health, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, or criminal convictions) where I can also satisfy one of the additional conditions in data protection law. These include:
• That you have given your explicit consent; or
• That the processing is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest.
3.4 I may only share your personal information with others in certain circumstances and must take steps to keep it secure.
3.5 I will generally only use your personal information for the specific purposes I have told you about.
3.6 I will not hold more information than I need and will not retain it for longer than necessary.
3.7 I will ensure that appropriate security measures are in place.
3.8 I will act in accordance with your rights.
3.9 I will not transfer your personal information outside the European Economic Area unless certain safeguards are in place.
4. HOW WILL I USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?
4.1 What personal information I will use
• Your name
• Your address
• Your contact details (email address, telephone number, etc.)
• Information provided when you raise an issue or concern with me, which may include special category personal information such as:
– Racial or ethnic origins
– Political opinions
– Religious or philosophical beliefs
– Membership of a trade union
– Physical or mental health (including details of any disability)
– Sexual orientation
– Commission or alleged commission of any offence
4.2 How I will obtain the personal information
Provided by you when you contact me with an enquiry or concern, or by a third party where the enquiry is raised on your behalf.
4.3 What purposes I will use the personal information for
• To communicate with you about the issue or concern raised and to provide you with updates about my work as your MP
• To progress your issue or concern and take steps to address the matter
4.4 The legal bases I rely upon
• My use of your personal information is necessary for the performance of a task in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in me. This is because the processing supports democratic engagement through casework activities.
• Where special category data is involved, my use is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest, as it is carried out by me in my capacity as an elected representative in response to a request by you or on your behalf.
4.5 How long I retain the personal information
I will only keep your personal information for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes described above. Information about casework will be retained only for as long as it takes to resolve or complete your request, although I may keep a minimum amount of information about closed cases in the event that you contact me again. If you have consented to receive updates about my work, I will retain your information until you ask not to be contacted further. I regularly review the personal information I hold to ensure its use remains necessary and proportionate.
5. SURVEYS
5.1 What personal information I will use
• Your name
• Your address
• Your contact details (email address, telephone number, etc.)
• Your opinions or other personal information provided in the survey
5.2 How I will obtain the personal information
Provided by you when you complete the survey.
5.3 The legal basis I rely upon
My use of your personal information in connection with surveys is necessary for the performance of a task in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in me. This is because the processing supports democratic engagement.
5.4 How long I retain the personal information
I will only keep your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described above and will regularly review what I hold to ensure it remains necessary and proportionate.
6. WHEN WILL I USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION FOR DIRECT MARKETING?
In addition to data protection law, if I use your personal information to send you direct communications about my work — whether by email, telephone, text, post, social media or other electronic means — I will only do so if you have given your specific consent.
My legal basis for this type of processing is therefore your consent.
I will retain your personal information for this purpose unless and until you tell me you no longer wish to hear from me. You can ask me to stop at any time by contacting me using the details in section 11 below.
7. COOKIES, PIXELS AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES
When you visit my website, certain technologies automatically collect information about your visit.
7.1 Log files and cookies
My website and its hosting provider collect standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, the pages you viewed, and the time of your visit. I use this information solely to:
• Keep my website secure
• Monitor how it is performing
• Make improvements for visitors
You can control how cookies work through your browser settings. If you choose to turn cookies off, some parts of my website may not work as expected.
7.2 Social media pixels and similar tools
My website uses tools provided by social media platforms, including the Meta Pixel (used by Facebook and Instagram), to help me understand how people find and interact with my website. These tools work by placing a small piece of code on my site that communicates with the relevant platform when you visit.
I use this information to:
• Understand which content is most useful to visitors
• Display information about my work to people on social media who may be interested in issues relevant to my constituency
• Ensure that updates I share online — such as news about local issues, parliamentary activity, or how to get in touch with my office — reach people who are most likely to find them helpful
7.3 What this means in practice
If you use Facebook or Instagram, Meta may be able to connect your visit to my website with your account on those platforms. This allows me to show content about my work to people who have shown an interest in similar topics. I do not use this to identify you personally, and I do not receive information from Meta that identifies you as an individual visitor to my site.
7.4 Your choices
You can opt out of this type of advertising at any time:
• On Facebook or Instagram, go to Settings > Ads > Ad preferences to manage your preferences
• Visit www.youronlinechoices.eu or www.aboutads.info/choices to manage your preferences across multiple platforms
• Use your browser’s cookie settings to block tracking technologies altogether
7.5 Legal basis
I rely on your consent, given via the cookie consent banner on my website, as my legal basis for using social media pixels and similar tools. You can withdraw your consent at any time using any of the options above or by adjusting your cookie preferences on my website.
Meta’s own use of any data collected through the Meta Pixel is governed by Meta’s privacy policy, available at: https://www.facebook.com/policy

• Legal basis: Your consent.
• Precautions: I do not share information that directly identifies you, such as your name or contact details, with social media platforms through this process.
