A major win for our countryside 🌳 The Government has temporarily banned the sale of disposable BBQs following the campaign I’ve been leading.

📺 I joined ITV Central East to discuss my campaign calling on retailers across the UK to suspend the sale of disposable BBQs during periods of high wildfire risk. I'm pleased that a growing number of retailers have already agreed to act, but there is still more to do. We cannot keep waiting until another preventable fire breaks out before taking action. Thank you to ITV Central East for covering the campaign and helping raise awareness of this important issue.

📺 This morning I joined BBC Breakfast to talk about my campaign calling on all major retailers to suspend the sale of disposable BBQs. High Peak is the constituency most vulnerable to wildfires in the UK, and with hotter, drier summers becoming more common, we need to do more to reduce the risk. I'm calling on supermarkets and retailers across the country to follow the lead of those who have already acted and suspend sales of disposable BBQs while the wildfire risk remains high. Protecting our moorlands, wildlife, firefighters and communities must come before convenience. The risk of wildfires is still incredibly high, and one careless disposable BBQ can have devastating consequences. I’ve written to supermarkets asking them to suspend the sale of disposable BBQs while the risk remains so high, so far Sainsbury’s and Co-op have responded. We all have a part to play in protecting our countryside, wildlife and local communities. Please do your bit and choose a safer alternative. 🌿🔥

🔥 I joined LBC today to make the case for supermarkets across the UK to suspend the sale of disposable BBQs while we face another dangerous wildfire season. High Peak is the constituency most at risk of wildfires, and we've seen first-hand the devastation these fires cause to our countryside, wildlife and emergency services. Some retailers have already acted locally.
