Two leaders’ speeches in two days and the contrasts could not be starker.
Sunak delivered more sticking plasters. Even if he delivers on his very limited pledges, we will all still be worse off, our economy weaker and our public services still failing as result of years of mismanagement and underfunding.
In contrast Keir Starmer set out Labour’s mission for national renewal and for the hope that things can get better – which for so many people is hard to imagine whilst they struggle day-to-day trying to make ends meet.
Labour understands that people feel helpless at the moment – let down by an out of touch government that does not understand their community’s needs.
Labour will spread control out of Westminster by devolving new powers over employment support, transport, climate change, housing and childcare.
These powers will give people in the towns across High Peak the tools they need to deliver real change for their local economies.
