Petition: BAn use of disposable bbqs in public spaces
Please sign this petition if you want to protect our local environment and ban the use of disposable BBQs in public spaces.
High Peak is home to some of the country’s most beautiful countryside. From our moorlands to our woodlands, these landscapes are part of what makes our area so special. We all have a responsibility to protect them.
The recent wildfires across High Peak, including the devastating fire on Tintwistle Moor, have once again shown just how vulnerable our countryside is during periods of hot, dry weather. These fires destroy precious wildlife habitats, damage our natural environment, put nearby communities at risk and require a huge response from our outstanding firefighters and emergency services.
That is why I am calling on the Government to ban the use of disposable BBQs in public spaces across the country. They pose a well-known fire risk, particularly during prolonged dry weather, and we must do more to prevent avoidable wildfires before they start.
While I continue to press the Government for national action, I am also calling on retailers to suspend the sale of disposable BBQs, both online and in stores nationwide, until stronger protections are in place. Retailers have an important role to play in helping reduce the risk of devastating fires.
Last year, a number of retailers responded positively after I contacted them, with several agreeing not to stock disposable BBQs locally or ending sales nationally. I am now urging every major retailer to follow their example and put public safety and environmental protection first.
I will continue working with firefighters, environmental organisations, local authorities and retailers to protect our countryside for future generations.
If you support my campaign for a ban on disposable BBQs in public spaces and for retailers to suspend their sale nationwide, please add your name to my petition.
Together, we can help protect High Peak’s beautiful landscapes, support our emergency services and reduce the risk of future wildfires.
