Today we remember the 6 million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution and during more recent genocides.
Earlier I marked the day by attending a ceremonial flag raising in Glossop and tonight by lighting a candle as others are across High Peak, the UK and the world.
Ordinary people were involved in every aspect of the holocaust – perpetrators, bystanders, rescuers, witnesses – and the victims.
Ordinary people can stop it happening again by playing our part in challenging prejudice today.

The Church of England changed this year’s date from the customary 23 April as no saints days are celebrated during the Easter weeks. So for those that mark the day via the church's calendar - happy St George's Day. 🏴
