I need your help to fight for our local NHS services

Right now, our local health services in Buxton are under real threat – and I need your help.

Nine hospital services – including ophthalmology, ENT, rheumatology, gynaecology, urology, respiratory care, diabetes, surgical services and the pain clinic – are under consultation for removal. Many of you, or your loved ones, rely on these clinics for everyday care and life-changing treatment. If they are moved to Stepping Hill, it will potentially mean longer, more difficult journeys and delays to care for people in our communities.

As soon as I was made aware of these changes by brave whistleblowers, I stepped in. With the support of local health champions, I have secured a pause on these proposals. A pause isn’t a victory – not yet – but it gives us the space to fight back properly, push for transparency and make the case for why these services must stay in Buxton.

We know what happens when local needs are ignored. The Tories cancelled the planned Health Hub for Buxton, and while they gave up on that investment, I haven’t. I’m determined to show that High Peak deserves accessible, modern, local healthcare.

Nationally, we’re already making the practical changes people have waited years for. 90% of GPs are now offering online appointments, making it easier to see a doctor when you need one, and 4 in 5 care providers are using digital social care records, giving faster and safer support to the almost 90% of people who rely on care. These improvements matter, and I’m proud that this government is strengthening our health and care system after years of cuts by previous Tory governments.

We’re easing the challenges of travel, from the £550 boost to state pensions to freezing rail fares for the first time in 30 years, which will undoubtedly help make attending health appointments outside High Peak easier and more affordable. But I also know from countless conversations on the doorstep, that the logistics of getting to Stepping Hill remain a real challenge. That’s why, despite this progress, I will continue to fight to keep these vital services in High Peak.

That’s why I need your voice.

Please sign my petition (here) and add your voice to this campaign.

Your stories help us show decision-makers exactly what is at stake – whether that’s the difficulty of travelling to Stepping Hill, the impact these services have had on your health, or why losing them would make life harder for someone you love.

I need you to share this petition too.

If these services have helped you or someone you care about, that story could be the tipping point in protecting our community’s health.

Together, we can show that High Peak will not quietly lose the services we depend on. We have a government that is finally investing in health and care – now let’s bring that commitment home, to Buxton, where it is urgently needed.
